The divorce process in England and Wales usually involves three main areas, which can often be dealt with at the same time.

1. The divorce application
The process begins by submitting a divorce application to the court. You must then obtain a Conditional Order and later a Final Order, which legally ends the marriage.

2. Child arrangements
If you have children, arrangements will need to be made for where they live and how much time they spend with each parent. If you cannot reach an agreement, you may need to try mediation or apply to the court for a Child Arrangements Order.

3. Financial arrangements
You will also need to decide how property, savings, debts and pensions will be divided between you.

A C2 application in family law is a court form used to make a request within an existing family court case, usually in matters involving children under the Children Act 1989. It allows a party to ask the court for permission to start proceedings, request a new order or direction in ongoing proceedings, or apply to join or leave an existing case. When you divorce in England and Wales, you will usually need to reach a financial settlement that fairly divides assets such as property, savings, pensions and debts. A key part of this process is financial disclosure, where both parties provide full details of their finances using a document called Form E. This includes information about income, expenses, assets and liabilities so that both parties, their solicitors and the court can clearly understand what is in the matrimonial assets available to divide.
