Stefan Hunka, Head of Criminal Law and Member of Alsters Kelley LLP attended the Valedictory Ceremony last week to mark the retirement of His Honour the Recorder of Coventry Judge Richard Griffith Jones.
Judge Richard Griffith Jones career spanned 43 years, initially as a highly respected and successful Barrister and subsequently as a hugely distinguished Judge, sitting in recent years at the Coventry and Warwick Crown Courts.
In a packed courtroom at the Crown Court in Leamington Spa last Friday glowing tributes were paid by the Presiding Judge of the Midland Circuit Mr.Justice Haddon-Cave and by Richard Atkins Q.C. on behalf of the Judiciary and the Bar.
Stefan was invited to make a speech on behalf of the Criminal Defence Solicitors of Coventry and Warwickshire and delivered a very personal tribute which was warmly received by those present including Judges from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court and Crown Court together with Queens Counsel, Junior Counsel and other Solicitors.
Commenting on the Ceremony, Stefan said, “It was a great honour both for me personally and the firm to be invited to speak at such an important and auspicious occasion. To play a prominent role before such a distinguished audience will live long in the memory and is something I will always regard as one of THE highlights of my career, of which I am so proud. I was also deeply humbled and overwhelmed by the positive response to the content of my address.”
