The fee to register your Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is increasing

However, there is a small but important change coming that you should know about.

What’s changing?

From 17 November 2025, the fee to register each LPA with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) will increase from £82 to £92.

That means if you’re registering both types of LPA — one for Property & Financial Affairs and one for Health & Welfare — the total cost will rise from £164 to £184.

There are still reductions and exemptions available if you are on a low income or certain benefits, but for most people this £10 increase per document will apply.

The Government has said the change is to ensure the registration fee more accurately reflects the cost of running the OPG’s service.

Why this matters

While a £10 increase might not sound like much, it is a timely reminder to take action if you’ve been meaning to get your LPAs sorted.

There are three key reasons to act now:

1. Save a little money – Submit your application before 17 November 2025 to pay the current £82 fee.
2. Protect yourself sooner – Once registered, your attorneys can act quickly if ever needed. Without an LPA, loved ones may face a lengthy and costly Court of Protection process.
3. Avoid mistakes and delays – More than 50,000 LPA applications are rejected each year due to errors. Getting help from an experienced legal team ensures your forms are correct the first time.

A quick reminder: What an LPA actually does

There are two types of LPA:

• Property and Financial Affairs LPA – allows someone you trust to manage your bank accounts, pay bills, or even sell property on your behalf.
• Health and Welfare LPA – enables your chosen attorney to make decisions about your healthcare, medical treatment, or where you live if you can’t decide for yourself.

You can choose one or both, depending on what is right for you. Either way, an LPA gives you peace of mind that your affairs will be managed by people you trust, in the way you would want.
