Mr El-Maghraby – Local Coventry brain surgeon faces concerns over his operations

It was recently reported by BBC’s Inside Out West Midlands that Mr Hussien El-Maghraby, a local Consultant Neurosurgeon, who is employed by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, has been stopped from performing two different surgical procedures pending further training and mentorship, following a Royal College of Surgeons inspection.

Concerns have come to light following surgery performed by Mr El-Maghraby, on Mr Stephen Bridgman to remove a benign tumour, which left Mr Bridgman in a vegetative state as his brain had been irreparably damaged, and he sadly died. His wife asked to see his medical records and was provided with a short video which showed some of the surgery. The video was viewed by three independent neurosurgeons who all expressed concerns over the surgery.

Four years earlier, a colleague of Mr El-Maghraby, Mr Munchi Choksey, raised concerns about some spinal procedures and two operations where Mr El-Maghraby had removed brain tissue instead of tumour.

We have already had former patients of Mr Hussien El-Maghraby contact us and are currently investigating complaints where patients are in a worse position than they were before the surgery. In some, the repercussions have left life changing injuries, whilst others have been left in a vegetative state
