Former England footballer and TV presenter Gary Lineker has recently been in the news following the confirmation of his ‘quickie divorce’ from second wife Danielle Bux and some of his subsequent comments about the role of Family lawyers.
He suggested that family lawyers deliberately increase tensions and disputes between divorcing couples in order to boost their fees.
Michelle Guest, Family solicitor at Alsters Kelley LLP disagrees with his views stating that most Family lawyers are committed to resolving disputes in a non-confrontational way.
Michelle adds, “Our role as lawyers dealing with relationship breakdowns is to guide and support people through difficult times whilst minimising tensions wherever possible, we aim to help bring a swift and amicable conclusion to the separation process as this is in our clients best interests.
Settling financial matters arising from separation at a time when both parties are under a great deal of emotional stress can be difficult.
It is essential that decisions are made with a real understanding of the impact these will have in the future. As Family lawyers at Alsters Kelley LLP, we aim to provide support and advice to help people make the right decisions for themselves and their families in both the short and the long term.
As members of Resolution, our lawyers are committed to dealing with family matters in a constructive way designed to preserve people’s dignity and to encourage amicable agreement. Alsters Kelley LLP are long standing members of Resolution, a national group of family lawyers who bring a constructive non-confrontational approach to family law.”
