Whilst disgraced former breast surgeon Ian Paterson is six years into a 20-year jail service, the fight for justice from his former patients continues. Only last week, a further 1,500 patients were recalled by Spire Healthcare in the West Midlands – one of the private hospitals that he practised at prior to his suspension in 2011.
Following the Independent Inquiry into Ian Paterson, which was published in February 2020, Spire Healthcare agreed to recall all living patients to review their treatment. They had already checked operation details for over 5,500 patients in the private sector, but thanks to finding and being able to access an old IT legacy system complete with database, they discovered another 1500 patients from 1993 to the early 2000s.
Commitment to former patients
Haidee Vedy, Senior Solicitor Medical Negligence & Personal Injury comments. “We have acted for many victims of Paterson already and have plenty of experience in this matter. These latest patient recalls indicate that Spire may not have been as thorough as previously thought in their commitment to finding and righting the wrongs from the past.”
Haidee continued. “With more potential victims out there, it is important that their stories are heard and justice, however overdue, can be done. If you have been affected, or someone you know was a former patient at either Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, Spire Parkway Solihull, or Spire Little Aston hospitals, we urge you to get in touch. We can help and support you in this very painful legal process, so you can get financial recompense and some much-needed closure.”
