Services and Costs – Summary Motoring Offences
Charging Rates
Our charges in relation to summary only motoring offences are based on an hourly rate. All emails, calls, letters made and received are charged at 10% of that rate. The charging rates for each fee earner are different and are shown below:

All charges are excluding VAT. Current VAT rate is 20%.
Following out initial consultation with you regarding your case we will then be able to provide you with an estimate as to the number of hours your matter would take. Hours spent on motoring offences vary depending on your instruction and pleas, therefore, we cannot provide these details until we have taken your instructions.
Costs in respect of motoring offences vary depending on the specific needs of individual clients. This includes the following:
- Attendance upon client
- Considering evidence
- Taking instructions
- Providing advice on likely plea and sentence
- Attendance and representation at the Magistrates Court
- Instruction of any expert witnesses
- Taking Statements from any witnesses
- Advice in relation to special reasons hearing
- Advice / assistance in relation to any appeal
We will explain the Court procedure to you so that you know what to expect on the day of your hearing together with the sentencing options available to the Court.
We cannot provide a timescale as to how long your hearing will take as this depends on the Court listing for that date and a significant factor that will increase/decrease overall costs is the amount of time spent at Court.
We will attend on the day of the hearing and meet you at Court before going into Court.
You will be charged any additional disbursements such as mileage, parking, and expert fees. All disbursements attract VAT at 20%.
The average cost for a guilty plea case, depending upon whether it is a local or national Court we attend, is between £1500 – £3000 and for a non-guilty plea case the average cost is between £3500 – £5500. These costs are all subject to VAT (currently 20%).
We will provide an overall cost estimate following the initial meeting with a client when we will also take instructions and provide advice.
