The claimant was aged 82 on admission to the Care home. She was on bed rest and required regular turning to prevent pressure sores from developing. It was a busy Care home and there had been a shortage of nursing staff. During visiting, family had found the Claimant in soiled clothes and bed sheets. There were signs of neglect and failure to clean or wash her. She developed pressure ulcers on the sacral area because of the failure to move/turn at regular intervals. These became infected causing restrictions in being able to walk or move.
The Care home accepted the negligent care provided and also the failures to turn the Claimant regularly resulting in the pressure sores. They made an apology. An out of Court settlement was achieved.
