I need to access legal services during lockdown – what can I do?
06 November 2020
The new lockdown came into force in England at 12.01am on Thursday 5th November. Understanding what you can and cannot do can be difficult to understand.
Here we set out what you can do to access legal services.
Our offices remain open and staffed. Where our colleagues can work effectively from home they are doing so but otherwise our legal and support staff are working in the offices as permitted by the regulations.
Where possible we will conduct virtual meetings via platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom and we will use email and telephone to minimise the need for contact however, sometimes this is not appropriate or possible when dealing with your matter.
Under the new regulations it is acceptable for a person to leave home to fulfil a legal obligation.
You can leave home to:
- Attend Court – Courts will remain open unless otherwise stated.
- Have documents witnessed or sworn or verified
- Participate in legal proceedings
- Attend our offices to provide instructions / documents and meet with our lawyers for the conduct of your matter where virtual appointments, email or telephone appointments are not appropriate or possible
The property market is remaining open. You can leave home to:
- View residential properties to buy or rent
- Prepare a residential property to move in to
- Move to a new house
- Attend a residential property to undertake any activities required for rental or sale of that property.
