Sarah takes a practical and sensible approach when helping to support families in resolving the almost inevitable issues which arise following relationship breakdown. She prides herself on giving clear and direct advice whilst being kind and compassionate.
Relationship breakdown can be truly harrowing, but Sarah works hard with clients to help them understand how life can be rebuilt, looking in real terms at the potential different outcomes and how their life will look post separation, financially and otherwise, so that they can make informed and rational decisions.
There are many ways to help a family reach agreement – including all party meetings, mediation and through the collaborative process. Sarah is in a position to advise clients on all of the options and what will be best for them. One size does not fit all. Court proceedings tend to be the last resort, because finding a solution outside of court brings many benefits. A family often finds it easier to rebuild post separation if court proceedings have been avoided. That said, if court proceedings are necessary, then Sarah is a robust and able advocate.
Sarah is based in the Leamington Spa office but helps clients across all four of our offices.
Experience
Sarah's career in family law began in May 2017 when she began a 6 month retraining period with Shoosmiths. Sarah has practised exclusively in family law since.
Her route to family law was unusual in that for many years she specialised in business disputes before becoming a family solicitor. So far, in her career as a family solicitor, her case load has included mainly financial matters arising as a result of relationship breakdown and also children matters. Sarah has a special interest in issues arising between people who have separated after having lived together but not married.
Sarah's previous career in commercial litigation provided a strong platform from which to retrain. It was broad and varied, including areas like pensions, insolvency, property and asset finance. Sarah's wealth of experience in the commercial and corporate arenas means that she has particular understanding of the issues involving family businesses, senior executives and pension related issues. Her experience in representing clients at all levels of the court system, from the county courts right up to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, is something which directly benefits her clients.
Career
Sarah has been instrumental in two reported cases, one of which went to an oral hearing at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
What matters most to her is having a positive impact on peoples lives at a time when they really need sound legal guidance. Sarah's role as a solicitor is one she considers to be both a responsibility and a true privilege.
The decisions and approach taken in resolving differences impacts families on many levels for many years. Every case matters.
Hobbies
Outside of work when Sarah is not throwing herself into activities with her two young children, she very much enjoys live music and theatre, eating out and long walks.
